48 Hours

Well, surgery is roughly 48 hours away!   I can't believe it's here already!   I feel like it was just yesterday when I started this journey.   I am officially down 14 pounds and I am really proud of that!   This two week pre surgical diet is no joke.   I had to really rely on my coping mechanisms and deep breathing to get through some of the earlier hunger pains.   But now that I have been on the diet for almost two weeks, my body has adapted.  My energy has been variable.   When we were up north over Memorial Day weekend I spent a good chunk of time in bed because I just physically was so exhausted.   I didn't get my energy until about 3 o'clock in the afternoon.   So I am thankful that has improved.

My anticipation anxiety has been waxing and waning a bit.   The closer I am getting the more I realize what a good thing this will be for me.   The only thing I am really anxious about is actually being put under anesthesia before the surgery.   I'm not one to relinquish control super easily and with anesthesia you done lol!   I tend to get emotional when I get back to the OR, so I am really hoping I have some incredible nurses back there.

Overall I am looking forward to getting off the pre surgery diet.   Although, post surgery I'll be on liquids only for 2 weeks.   So I'm sure by the time I get to the end of those 2 weeks I'll be ready to chew something again.   If I am moved up then weeks 3-7 I will be on a pureed diet and then at my 6 week post op I hope to get clearance to progress to food cautiously.   It's all systematic to allow your stomach and intestines to heal properly.

The food hasn't been bad (except I hated the oatmeal).   It was all food we had to purchase from my surgeon's office.   I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty most everything was!   However, I think I can buy stock in sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles!   :-)

My mom assisted me in taking my beginning of the month photos and measurements,   Since March 1 I have lost 2 inches around my belly!   I was so happy with that progress!   A little further into the journey I will be sharing those photos to you.   I am anticipating a huge transformation!

That is most of the update I have for you today.   I hope you are well and succeeding in your own journey, whatever that may be!

Back to Work and 6 Week Post Op

My sincerest apologies that this so LATE! I started back working full time following my surgery about a month ago and to say it's been an adjustment has been an understatement.   (It's been good though!) The first two weeks back to work were absolutely exhausting.   Catching up from being off for four weeks and then trying to mentally get my brain back into work mode was a challenge.   Especially with no caffeine! But, I've been adjusting and finding my rhythm and groove and I think I'm getting it down finally.   It's a bit of a balancing act to remember to get your hydrating fluids in throughout the day (and making sure you are on the mark at specific points throughout the day), making sure I am getting my protein in everyday (which hasn't been too much of an issue for me) and making sure my calorie intake is appropriate.   On top of getting up for work and the typical work week stressors, appointments and life. I am still curren...

Encouragement

Hello Friends! I want to wish you a very happy and safe 4th of July today.   I hope you are with your friends and family that you love and that you are staying cool and hydrated!   We are just making some good food and hanging out at home - maybe play some games but very low key. I wanted to hop on today and talk a little bit about what keeps me inspired and motivated and pushing through the rough moments.   I think it is really important to find ways to keep yourself on track, honest and excited about your goals. Before I even had surgery, my dear therapist suggested that I make an inspiration/motivation board/poster to hang up somewhere I can see everyday.   So the photo above is the result of that assignment.    It took me a couple days but I feel it turned out absolutely stunning.   I included a lot of color and a lot of words of encouragement.   Both things that are dear to my heart. What is listed in the ...

My Thanks

Hello Friends! No, this is not a current photo - this was during my second hospitalization.   It was a day that I actually felt somewhat human so thought it would be a good photo opportunity. Now that I have gotten you caught up on how my month of June went - I wanted to talk about a few things that happened in the hospital that were eye opening and made me very grateful for the care I was given. But first I wanted to throw out there that the care I received during my hospitalizations (with the exception of one night shift) was absolutely incredible!    I can't really call out the facility or specific staff members but know that you made all of the difference in my hospital stay.   My nurses were so compassionate and shared their stories with me on how long they had been in the healthcare field.    Some of them were in RN school, some were new and some had been doing it since 1994.  I also was able to speak to some staff that were COVID staff...
